The Story of Club Planet: How a Little Dust Became a Universe
Planets are born from dust.
Far out in space, tiny particles drift through the vastness, seemingly insignificant on their own. But over time, those particles begin to come together. They collide, connect, gather, and grow. Eventually, something much bigger takes shape — a planet, with its own gravity, atmosphere, and world of possibilities.
Club Planet has a story that is not so different.
It began with an idea, a passion for rhythmic gymnastics, and two people whose paths came together at just the right moment.
The Beginning: 2001
In 2000, founder Alla Krivchun began building what would become Club Planet. The vision was simple but ambitious: create a place where athletes could develop their skills, discover their potential, and experience the beauty and discipline of rhythmic gymnastics.
Then came Natasha Korkh.
When Natasha Korkh joined Alla in 2001, the foundation of Club Planet became something more than an idea. Two coaches, two perspectives, and a shared passion began to form the nucleus of a club.
Just like particles of dust gathering in space, the pieces started coming together.
And Planet was born.
From the beginning, the club was about more than medals. It was about creating an environment where young athletes could work hard, build confidence, learn discipline, and discover the joy of movement. That philosophy would become part of the character of Club Planet.
From a Small Beginning to a Growing Community
A planet does not become a world overnight.
It grows.
So did Club Planet.
Athletes came through the doors. Coaches joined. Families became part of the community. Competitions brought new challenges and opportunities. Year after year, the club developed its competitive and recreational programs while building a reputation within the rhythmic gymnastics community.
By the mid-2000s, Club Planet was already an established part of Vancouver's rhythmic gymnastics landscape.
The club's growth was not simply about getting bigger. It was about creating something with its own identity. A Planet.
More Than Gymnastics
Over the years, Club Planet became a place where generations of gymnasts could grow.
For some athletes, Planet was where they took their very first steps onto a rhythmic gymnastics carpet. For others, it became the place where they trained for provincial, Western Canadian, national, and international competition.
The club's history includes athletes reaching major competitive milestones. In the 2014–2015 season, for example, Polly Krivchun became a Canadian National Champion and a Western Champion in her category. The club also continued expanding its recreational, competitive, and group programs.
But statistics only tell part of the story.
Behind every medal is a child who practiced one more time.
Behind every competition is a coach who stayed late.
Behind every confident athlete is a family that drove to practice, packed equipment, encouraged, supported, and believed.
That is the real history of Club Planet Rhythmics.
The Gravity of a Community
What gives a planet its identity is gravity — the force that holds everything together.
Club Planet has its own kind of gravity.
It is created by coaches and athletes, by friendships formed in the gym, by families who become part of the community, and by generations of gymnasts who return to share their experience with the next generation.
Natasha Korkh's coaching career has included developing athletes who reached provincial, regional, and national success, including Canadian national and national-team athletes.
One Planet Becomes Two
By the 2020s, Club Planet entered a new chapter.
After more than two decades of growing together, Planet evolved into two clubs, each carrying forward a part of the original club's history.
Planet North Shore, operated by Alla Krivchun and her daughter Pauline, continued the Planet tradition on the North Shore.
Planet Vancouver, led by Natasha Korkh and her daughter Ania Korkh, continued that tradition in Vancouver.
It was not the end of Planet's story. In a way, it was an expansion of its universe.
The same roots that had begun growing in 2001 now extended in two directions. Each club developed its own community, athletes, coaches, and future, while sharing a history that stretched back to the original Club Planet.
One Planet had become two.
And both continued to orbit around the idea that started it all: giving young athletes a place to discover what they are capable of becoming.
The Universe Keeps Growing
More than two decades after those first pieces came together, the story of Club Planet is still being written.
What began with Alla Krivchun and Natasha Korkh in 2001 grew through countless practices, competitions, performances, friendships, victories, challenges, coaches, athletes, and families.
Then that world grew large enough to become two.
Today, Planet North Shore and Planet Vancouver are writing their own chapters. Different clubs, different communities, and different paths — but with a shared beginning.
Because planets are born from dust.
And sometimes, if enough people give their energy, passion, and time to something, one small collection of dust can become an entire universe.
There is still plenty of space left to explore.
